How it works
Peer support, on demand. Here's exactly what happens when you open the app, and why it helps.

From download to "I feel better" in eight taps
- Download the app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Create an account with your email, Google or Apple. If you have a promo code from an employer or school, enter it in Settings.
- Subscribe for $14.99 a month, managed from your app store like any other subscription. Skip this step if you entered a promo code.
- Tap Find a Listener. Pick a topic, or choose "just talk."
- Log how you're feeling and add a sentence or two if you want. We use this to match you well.
- Chat with your Listener for as long as you need. You can end it any time.
- Rate the conversation. If it clicked, request a dedicated chat so you can come back to the same person.
- Once they accept, your Listener lives in your chat menu. Message them whenever you need to.
What makes a HearMe conversation different
Right now, not next Tuesday
Feelings don't keep office hours. A Listener is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and you're usually connected in under three minutes.
Someone who has been there
We match on lived experience. Grief, divorce, a new diagnosis, burnout, coming out, caring for a parent. You'll talk to someone who knows the terrain.
Trained, then trained again
Every Listener completes Foundations in Responsive Support Training (FIRST), written by licensed mental health professionals, and keeps learning through free trainings on HearMe Academy.
Private by design
No names. No profile. Conversations are encrypted and HIPAA-compliant. Our Community Directors audit chats to keep quality high, and that's the only reason anyone else ever looks.
Why peer support works
Peer support is the evidence-based practice of people with shared experience helping each other. It isn't a stand-in for therapy. For a lot of what life throws at us, it's the thing that was missing.
According to Mental Health America, peer support:
- Reduces symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD and substance use.
- Increases hopefulness, life satisfaction and meaningful relationships.
- Lowers the need for clinical intervention and in-patient admission.
- Improves engagement with providers and reduces relapse.
- Pays for itself: workplace programs show a 30% drop in prevalence of depression and anxiety and 4.43 fewer missed work days a month.
